Lawn Shop Shaded Lawn Seed – A grass seed mixture for sowing in the more difficult shady and dry areas in the garden with fine leaved sward. This grass seed mixture is persistent, providing good ground cover. It is shade, drought and wear tolerant.
It is important to alleviate soil compaction and use a pre-seed fertiliser prior to sowing. When cutting, it is important to keep the mower blades relatively high eg: 35mm.
The seed once established should produce a dense lawn which when fertilised on a regular basis will maintain an excellent sward, capable of with standing the stresses imposed upon it in shady conditions. To keep the shade area dense, be mindful to over seed it each year as it is often the drip, drip drip of water coming off the trees that literally wears the grass plants out on impact thus making the sward thin in places.
Consideration should also be given to artificial irrigation if the shade canopy is very dense that natural rain cannot penetrate to benefit the grass beneath.
The seed mixture contains – 27% Chewings Fescue, 55% Strong Creeping Red Fescue, 10% Hard Fescue, 5% Smooth-Stalked Meadow Grass and 3% Hard Fescue
Apply to new lawns at a rate of 35 grams per sqm or over seeding use 20 grams per sqm.
If you are planning to scarify your lawn always over seed it with grass seed afterwards. If your lawn is looking thin, then over seed it before the weeds and moss get a hold.
